Knoxfield Dental Care is a general and family dental practice on Ferntree Gully Road in Knoxfield. This page covers what each of our services is for, how to find us, and what to bring to your first appointment.
A Family Dentist in Knoxfield
We are at 1577 Ferntree Gully Road, Knoxfield VIC 3180, and we are open Monday to Saturday, 8:30am to 5pm. Most of our patients live or work in Knoxfield, and families also come to us from Rowville, Scoresby, Wantirna South and other suburbs nearby.
Saturday appointments are popular with families. If your child needs a check-up or you have been putting off a clean because of work, a Saturday slot can fit around the school week and the working week without taking leave. We do not offer after-hours appointments, but online booking is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you can choose a time that suits you even at 10pm on a Sunday.
Several of our dentists speak Mandarin and Cantonese. If English is not your first language, or you are booking for a parent who prefers to discuss treatment in their own language, let our reception team know and we will match you with the right dentist.
What Each of Our Services Is For
A check-up and clean is the routine visit that keeps your teeth and gums healthy. For eligible health fund members we offer a no-gap check-up and clean, which means the preventive visit is covered by your fund with nothing extra to pay at the chair. Your dentist performs the clean, checking for early decay, gum inflammation and other changes before they become bigger problems.
Children’s dentistry covers everything from a first visit for a toddler to sealants and guidance as adult teeth arrive. We keep the appointments calm and unhurried so a young patient learns that the dental chair is a safe place.
Orthodontics is for crooked teeth and bite problems. We provide traditional braces and clear aligners, and treatment can start in the teenage years or in adulthood. Myobrace is an early orthodontic system for younger children, usually primary school age, that uses a removable appliance to guide jaw growth and tongue posture before braces might be needed.
Emergency dentistry is available during our opening hours if you have a broken tooth, a lost filling, swelling or pain that will not settle. Ring us on (03) 9763 3339 and we will find the earliest time we can see you.
Dental implants replace a missing tooth with a titanium post and a crown that looks and functions like a natural tooth. Teeth whitening lightens the shade of your natural teeth in the surgery. Resin bonding uses tooth-coloured material to repair chips, close small gaps or reshape a tooth, often in a single visit.
- No-gap check-up and clean for eligible health fund members
- Children’s dentistry from toddler age upwards
- Braces and clear aligners for teens and adults
- Myobrace early orthodontic treatment for younger children
- Emergency dentistry during opening hours
- Dental implants, teeth whitening and resin bonding
Finding Us
The practice is at 1577 Ferntree Gully Road, Knoxfield VIC 3180. The easiest way to get here is to put the full address into your maps app, because Ferntree Gully Road is a long road and the street number is what gets you to the right door. The same address works for a rideshare or a drop-off.
Traffic along Ferntree Gully Road varies through the day, so allow a little extra time in school peak hour or the evening commute. For public transport, check the Public Transport Victoria journey planner for the service that suits your starting point. If you are unsure about parking, ring reception before your visit and we will point you in the right direction.
Arriving five to ten minutes before your appointment gives you time to settle in and complete any paperwork.
What to Bring to Your First Visit
Your first appointment runs more smoothly if you bring a few things. Your health fund card lets us process any eligible no-gap check-up and clean on the spot. If you are bringing children, their Medicare card helps us check whether they are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, which covers a set amount of basic dental care over two calendar years.
Bring a list of any medications you take, including the dose and how often. This includes blood thinners, blood pressure medication, diabetes medication and anything you buy over the counter. A list of your medical conditions and any allergies is also helpful. If you have seen another dentist recently, bring any X-rays or treatment notes you have, or ask your previous practice to forward them.
Tell us if you are pregnant, if you have had joint replacement surgery, or if you have a heart condition that requires antibiotics before dental work. These details change how we plan your care and keep your visit safe.
- Health fund card for claiming your check-up and clean
- Medicare card for children, to check Child Dental Benefits Schedule eligibility
- A written list of medications, doses and medical conditions
- Any recent X-rays or treatment notes from another dentist
Toothache Out of Hours: What to Do
We are open Monday to Saturday, 8:30am to 5pm, and we do not run an after-hours service. If a toothache starts outside those hours, you can call the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne emergency line for advice. That service can guide you on whether you need to be seen urgently and where to go.
Go to a hospital emergency department or call 000 if you have facial swelling that is affecting your breathing or swallowing, or if you have swelling around your eye or neck that is getting worse quickly. Those signs suggest a serious infection that needs hospital care, not a routine dental appointment.
For less severe pain, a warm salt water rinse can help clean the area, and paracetamol taken as directed on the packet can ease discomfort. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum. Ring us on (03) 9763 3339 when we reopen and we will book you in as an emergency patient during opening hours. If you are not sure whether your situation is an emergency, ring us and we will advise you.
