Gift yourself a brighter smile today!
Tooth whitening is a safe and affordable procedure that everyone would like to do. It does not involve any drilling or needles. There are two popular ways to whiten your smile:
In-chair Tooth Whitening
In-chair Tooth Whitening is the answer for those patients living busy lifestyles. Your dentist will apply a professional whitening gel onto your teeth while you sit in the dental chair. Sometimes a bright but safe UV LED light will also be applied to activate the gel more quickly and boost the results. Most people get some sensitivities which is only temporary.
Take-home Tooth Whitening Kit
Take-home Tooth Whitening is a simply way to achieve great results but less sensitives. Your dentist will take moulds of your teeth and custom make bleaching trays that perfectly fit your teeth and protect your gum as well. You will also be given a box of whitening gels which will be applied to the trays.
Over the course of 10 days to 2 weeks, you can either wear the trays for 1-2 hours during the day or overnight. You will see a whiter and younger looking smile!

Frequently Asked Questions — Teeth Whitening
What teeth whitening options does Knoxfield Dental Care offer?
We offer in-chair teeth whitening for fast, same-visit results, and a custom take-home whitening kit worn over 10–14 days for a more gradual result with less sensitivity. Your dentist will recommend the best option for your goals and lifestyle.
How does in-chair teeth whitening work?
A professional-strength whitening gel is applied to your teeth and activated with a UV LED light in a single appointment. Results are immediate and noticeable. Some patients experience temporary sensitivity that typically resolves within 1–2 days.
How does the take-home teeth whitening kit work?
Your dentist creates custom-fitted whitening trays from impressions of your teeth. You apply professional whitening gel to the trays and wear them for 1–2 hours daily or overnight for 10–14 days. The gradual process causes less sensitivity than in-chair whitening while delivering a noticeably whiter smile.
Is professional teeth whitening safe?
Yes. Professional whitening at Knoxfield Dental Care is safe when used as directed. Products are professionally formulated and applied carefully to protect gums. Temporary sensitivity is the most common side effect and resolves quickly. Professional whitening is safer and more effective than unregulated over-the-counter kits.
How long do teeth whitening results last?
Results typically last 6 months to 2 years, depending on diet, lifestyle and oral hygiene. Staining from coffee, tea, red wine and smoking can shorten longevity. Touch-up treatments with a take-home kit help maintain your results over time.
What is the difference between in-chair and take-home whitening?
In-chair whitening delivers fast results in a single visit — ideal for busy schedules or upcoming events. Take-home whitening is more gradual, causes less sensitivity, and custom trays can be reused for future top-ups. Many patients start with in-chair whitening and maintain results with a take-home kit.
Will teeth whitening work on crowns, veneers or fillings?
No. Whitening agents only affect natural tooth enamel. Crowns, veneers and composite restorations will not lighten. If you have visible restorations in your smile zone, discuss this with your dentist before starting whitening treatment.
Does teeth whitening cause sensitivity?
Some sensitivity is common, especially with in-chair whitening, but it is temporary and usually resolves within 24–48 hours. Take-home kits tend to cause less sensitivity due to the lower gel concentration. Desensitising toothpaste can help minimise discomfort.
Is there anyone who should not have teeth whitening?
Whitening is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for children under 18, or for patients with untreated gum disease or tooth decay. Patients with extensive front-tooth restorations should discuss suitability with their dentist first.
